Description
Hand made - hand sewn ethnic choli backless tie blouse from northern India.  Various layered fabrics and applied metallic decorative elements give it a very rich look.   Deep red fabric is silky soft feeling, the black overlay fabric has pierced patterns.  The metallic elements are hand sewn on a purple ground fabric and then hand applied to the base fabrics red & black.   This colorful exhuberant Boho / festival / hippie look has taken off in the West with alterations made to accomidate size.  Not sure how this could be enlarged.  The armholes sit very high, the sleeves are narrow as is the body.  Great folk art textile display !

The combination of a petticoat, often known as ‘chaniya’ in the local language and a blouse which is commonly known as ’choli’ with a bead-studded ‘chunri’ adds glam to the dressing style. The chunri is often designed with zaris, heavy borders, embroidery works and beautiful designs. The Gujarati style of dressing is mostly observed during festive seasons like Dusshera and Navratris. Almost every Gujarati have traditional attire in their wardrobe."
"Gujarati attire is filled with lavish ornaments and jewelleries. Embroidery is found in every piece of art.  Such kind of clothing is not seen in the cities; however there are people who wear such costumes in the rural areas of Gujarat.
I think this must be a girl's size, a woman would have to be just tiny to wear it I think.
Here are a few approx. measurements.  Blouse is not returnable due to size.
Front is 13" wide - about 16" wide at top aligning with arm pit, 11" long from center neck to bottom,  8" l. sleeve underseam, cuff 8" around, armpit extremely high and narrow opening.
Metallic yoke 3-1/2" wide, round metallic medallion at arm/shoulder area 3-1/2" diameter, metallic cuffs 3".
If you need any other measurements please let me know.  Not returnable due to size.
Great condition.  Vintage, the metallic work is older than the fabric blouse I believe.  Sleeve width was adjusted to smaller than original size-by hand-and has let out back to original size partly.  Handstitched so could be let out all along the underseam if desired I think.  Neck binding and neck ties are worn and splitting.
Overall however blouse is in good condition.   I have not cleaned this and leave cleaning to the new owner when and as desired.
