    Description

Here is an original early French bayonet for the MAS 49 56 rifle. This one is the first model Type I or Model 56 that was initially designed after a US carbine bayonet. It utilized the longer false edge design that was only made in 1956 to 1957 so is relatively scarce.
Blade is full 22cm long, has original finish and retains original factory edge on each side. Tip has a slight ding that is shown in the photos but still sharp. The unique double muzzel ring crossguard is marked E-RM designating the manufacturing arsenal. Handles are perfect condition and locking mechanism button and lock functions tight.
Steel scabbard is also marked E-RM along with a small oval inspection stamp. Leather is strong and supple with strong stitching, retaining strap and brass button. Shows typical wear from use but retains original finish. This is the original scabbard to this knife as it is made to fit the bayonet excatly to the length of the longer edged blade. Relatively unique design IMO.

This is NOT the common Type II or Model 58 that is floating around from recent importers, but you all know that already.
