    Description

For your consideration a very unique one of a kind thank you to Roger Kahn on April 5th 1958, from the entire Blue Angels fight demonstration team. Roger was the Grumman liaison to the Angels for the first 12 years of the team’s existence. Roger’s involvement with the Angels is documented in Jim Armstrong’s book “From POW to Angel”, story of Angel pilot Dusty Rhode. Commander Rhode was the team’s third lead pilot. This is a retirement plaque to him which would be pretty special, but it also is signed by 45 early team members who directly etched their signatures into the silver plate. If that isn’t enough it also is a memorial to the first 8 Blue Angels that had died since the team inception in 1946. Hard to put a value on this one, the plaque itself is an 1/8” silver plate. I’m not going to dismount it from the spectacular mahogany base to weigh it, but there is hundreds of dollars in silver alone here. A definitive early Angels touchstones to be sure. I have no doubt of it’s origin or age, it’s pretty obvious. I cleaned the silver plate, but did not get too aggressive. Photo’s were hard because of reflections. It’s easier to see in person. Finish on the mahogany looks original and it is a great thick piece of wood. The team did not hold back on this thank you that’s for sure. This probably deserves to be in the team’s Pensacola headquarters. I would suggest adding insurance to this. Please ask questions before bidding.
